Every bad program is called a "virus". There is a distinction between virus and malware because we are in a time of invention that virus writers are just punks trying to trash your computer.

Currently malware writers are in this for a BIG profit. All the "rogue" antivirus and malware softwares that pop up your system are only interested in getting your credit card numbers.

If they get 1 of 100 infections at $35 each and infect 1,000,000 systems the are set to make millions of dollars in just fake antivirus alerts.

The first thing you need to look for is a random scan or "evaluation" of your system status.

"You MAY be infected". Is the first clue, any good antivirus /antimalware will never say this. It SHOULD say this file is infected, give you specifics about the location and name of the infection.

And the final key to a fake is the request for a credit card number to remove it.

I have some people tell me that other tech support companies have kept their computers for more than a week! And sometimes not even get them fixed in that time!

I'm a military veteran of ten years, and 15 years in business

I used to manage almost a THOUSAND highly classified computers with my team.

24/7/365, downtime and excuses didn't cut it then or now!

My turn around times are usually next day, with some difficult ones taking a few days.

Call me if they can't:

1.    Guarantee it being repaired

2.    Get it finished in less than 3 days

3.    Get it done correctly, preserving your settings, data, and integrity of the system

4.    Explain in common sense what was wrong and how to avoid it in the future

5.    Be courteous and treat you fairly even though you aren't a technology whiz

Facebook Reveals Its True Intentions! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

Facebook was reported to confirm it's intentions to sell your data to marketers in this report by TGDaily.com

http://www.tgdaily.com/business-and-law-features/54400-facebook-to-release-phone-numbers-addresses-to-third-party-developer

This allows Facebook to sell your personal info (All that you gave them) to any third party for the right amount of money!

Now, a lot of people may say, "so what?"

Here's the basic business model for facebook, get anyone to give you thier info and sell it to the marketers (spammers, or UCE Unsolicited Content  Email)

No Problem Right?

I say Imagine this, TEXT SPAMMING!

Soon your "private" cell phone number will be getting tons of "spam texts" from marketers you never asked for.

LOL, you thought your email spam was hard to control? Just wait until your cell phone battery dies mid day because it doesn't stop getting thousands of TEXT SPAM for hours non stop.

This will be the next (STD) Socially Transmitted Disease.

Be careful with your information.

Firewall Issues PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff the Computer Man

Adding a firewall sounds like the safe method to protect your computer. In reality it sometimes becomes more of a headache that a solution.

If you have a wireless router between your DSL, Cable or other Internet service provider then this will be your first line of defense. Firewalls are for computers directly connected to the internet. This is actually kinda rare, if you have a need to be your own web service provider then this is a must have item.

Most of us don't actually need a firewall because the router (Linksys, D-Link, Motorola, ect...) actually provide a hardware based firewall that stands between you and the idiots trying to get in.

A hardware based firewall is much better at protecting you than any software. The router acts as a bouncer, if you are not on the list you don't get in. This is the easiest method to protect yourself because the default settings on most routers is no access from the internet side.

Hackers use programs to troll the vast space of the internet looking for a response of any kind. These programs work like an automatic number dialer for the phone system. They just start calling numbers until someone picks up and responds.

If your computer were directly connected to the internet, it would actually answer the call and when your computer responds(HELLO?), the hacker program begins to ask a LOT of questions.

  • What operating system are you?
  • What service pack do you have installed?
  • What version of Internet Explorer do you use?
  • What ports are open, like FTP (File Transfer Protocol), IM (instant messenger on many different ports), EMail (Port 23 and 110), Web Server (port 80)

There are over 65,000 ports availble for the computer to use for all kinds of  communication. Some of these ports have a dedicated function, EMail, IM, FTP, Web Server, and so on.

These are the hacker targets. They set their programs to look at these ports for known vulnerabilities, which are almost limitless.

So, don't have your computer directly connected to the internet. If you are not sure, have an expert check this major security hole. A wireless router should be about $50 and installation is pretty easy if you follow the install wizards. ALWAYS CHANGE ALL THE PASSWORDS on a router! If it is wireless, it has an option to put a password on the wireless connection, DO THIS!

Virus and Spyware removal PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

Virus and spyware removal is an ongoing battle. Every day some idiot out there discovers a new "exploit".

It's kinda like walking up to someone, looking at your watch, asking them to "hand me that piano"(Monty Python). Theres not even a piano in the room! And no one could hand you a piano to begin with!

It just doesn't compute.

This is where computers fail.

When a computer asks a question of another computer, it is usually done in a logical manner.

Laptop Repair PDF Print E-mail

It takes a lot of experience to take a laptop down to it's minor components. I've seen a lot of failed attempts that destroy an otherwise repairable computer. There are so many small parts and delicate ribbon cables it really takes some time to do this well.

Most repair places won't replace an LCD or screen, it takes too much skill and time to do it correctly.

Call me for laptop repair, I'll be honest and upfront with you on whether or not its even worth repairing.
